A stained fire pit cover can add visual appeal to your fire pit while it’s not in use, while also creating a tabletop for your patio.

1. To prepare to stain your fire pit cover, lightly sand the cover with #180- to #220-grit sandpaper and remove sanding dust. We recommend Gator Finishing sanding products.
2. With a lint-free cloth, generously apply Varathane Premium Fast Dry Wood Stain and let it sit for 2-3 minutes. For a richer penetration, leave on for an additional 1-2 minutes.
3. For additional outdoor protection, apply Varathane Spar Urethane to the surface, following the instructions on the can.
4. If desired, screw handles onto the cover after the wood stain and spar urethane is dry.
5. Make sure the fire is completely out and the pit has cooled before placing the tabletop cover over it.
